Brussels Market hosts watermelon-eating contest
These kids came to the Brussels Market on Friday to win some money and eat some watermelon and, in just a matter of minutes, it looked like they were almost out of watermelon. In addition to 14 vendors offering their wares on Friday, the Brussels Market also played host to a watermelon-eating contest, which was sponsored by the Brussels Leo Club, and about 10 young people were more than happy to oblige in the hopes of winning some money and eating some watermelon.
The Nobles, six-year-old Kendry on the left and eight-year-old Jacoby on the right, were more than happy to join their brother, 10-year-old Beckett Noble, not pictured, in the competition. In the end, the Nobles did well, as Beckett placed second and Kendry placed third, both bested by 10-year-old Abe Ekert, who captured gold. (John Stephenson photo)
